APPLICATION OF COCO COIR IN MAKING POTTING MIXES
Coco coir is also known as one of the substances that play an important role in making a number of rich and diverse potting mixes for growing plants. It can be mixed with soil, perlite, vermiculite, peat, sand, bark, or other materials to create potting mixes with different properties and uses, suitable for each type of crop and the needs of the user.
Some advantages of using coco coir in making potting mixes:
- Increase aeration: Coco coir has a desirable aeration and reduces the thickness of the soil, helping the soil to be aerated, and porous and avoiding clogging, helping to create a better soil structure and facilitating the movement of water and nutrients as well as the ability of plant roots to absorb oxygen better.
- Improve water retention: Coco coir has an outstanding property of water retention, when combined with other materials, it will create an ideal potting soil mixture, preventing crop drying, and helping plants to grow. It also helps plants absorb water better.
- Enhancing the growth of beneficial microorganisms: Coco coir is considered one of the important materials in creating potting mixes because they already contain a number of nutrients specifically beneficial to plant growth.
